The traditional cylindrical mash tuns made from metal and wood and are fed with the grist and mixed with hot liquor (that's brewers speak for water!).
This process is referred to as "mashing". From this a sweet liquid forms which is called wort and is separated from the used grains. The wort is then pumped into large cylindrical vessels called coppers, and hops are added before boiling to add bitterness and aroma to the beer. Each different beer has its own special recipe of ingredients. The wort is boiled until the full taste of the hops has been achieved.
